Drama Academy Ė Ramallah

Head of the Academy: George Ibrahim 

George Ibrahim was born in Ramlah in 1945 and is the founder and general director of the Al-Kasaba Theatre and Cinematheque in Ramallah. He works regularly as a playwright, director and actor and is the author and director of numerous plays and was awarded the ďPalestinian National Award for TheatreĒ in 1998. George Ibrahim is responsible for heading the Drama Academy Ramallah and he also takes personally part in instruction at the school.

Artistic & Educational advisor: Johannes Klaus 

Prof. Johannes Klaus completed actor training at the Bochum drama school. In 2000, after many years of work as an actor and director on many stages, he became head of the Bochum acting course at the Folkwang Hochschule. Since 2003 he has also been director of the Bad Gandersheim theatre festival. Johannes Klaus advises the Drama Academy Ramallah on artistic and educational matters and will also be a guest lecturer there. 

German project manager: Volkmar Clauss 

Dr. Clauss is familiar with the literary and theatre scene of the Middle East  from many study visits to this area by mediating an implementing various cultural links. Before he became a self employed drama producer, author,translator and cultural mediator. He was engaged at various theaters in Germany from 1969 to 2002. He was director of the theater of Ulm, the theatres of the city of Kiel, the theatre of Heidelberg and the Heidelberg Schlossfestspiele. From 1990 to 1993 he was managing director of the Schillertheater in Berlin. Volkmar Clauss is involved in the establishment of the Drama  Academy in Ramallah as German project manager.

Director of the Academy: Petra Barghouthi

Received specialized training in the subject of "Movement for Actors" at the Folkwang University and has obtained a High Diploma in the field of body awareness. Holds  Master degree in Drama and Movement Therapy from the Central School of Speech and Drama in London in 2006. She participated in a number of theater productions as a performer, choreographer and director assistant. She also worked as a drama therapist in the UK and Palestine. She worked as a lecturer at Birzeit University. She is now the director of the Drama Academy, inadiition to teaching movement for actors and choreography at the Drama Academy.
